About Julianna

Julianna O'Flaherty began riding outside of Boston, MA at a unique barn that offered recreational riding and a hippotherapy program. Julianna’s love of dressage started from a young age when working with her long time trainer and mentor, Jamie Velez, who showed her the importance of correct foundations and the beauty of dressage. At this barn Julianna began to volunteer and eventually became a working student to earn extra riding time, learn more about the care of horses, and work more with the hippotherapy program. Julianna was able to be involved with the growth of many individuals who became more outgoing, have better control of their body, and happier due to their work in the hippotherapy program.

Julianna joined a competitive eventing barn in high school where she was given the opportunity to rehabilitate her current horse, a holsteiner-thoroughbred cross, Phoenix. The experiences Julianna gained from rehabilitating and restarting Phoenix has carried over to her instructing and training. Julianna has had the opportunity to attend clinics with an array of trainers including Eric Smiley,  Bevin O’Reilly Dugan, and Andy Thomas.

Julianna is in her final year at UVM to obtain her Athletic Training board certification. Julianna has a unique interest in riders biomechanics and believes strongly in treating the horse and riders as athletes. Since moving to Vermont two years ago with her semi-retired Phoenix, she has been working in the local horse community and teaching riders in the area. Julianna is currently training for her Bronze Medal with Katie Cook on Mary Jane.
