My next featured exercise is another uncomplicated exercise. It's as simple as riding a 20 m circle, then an 18m circle, then a 16m circle, a 14m circle, a 12m circle, and a 10m circle. After making the circle smaller two meters at a time, enlarge the circle two meters at a time. Then change rein, and do it in the opposite direction. This is all about holding a steady line in a steady tempo, and helping the horse stay balanced as the circles get smaller, and keeping the balance as the circles get larger again. It helps the rider confirm that the turning aids work, and that the horse is properly aware of the inside leg as the rider asks the horse to enlarge the circle. This exercise can be ridden at the trot or canter.
